Disk brake conversion

I'm starting this thread to get an answer to a PM from seasure1. Below is the PM.
I had a company come to the house to do a disc brake conversion. They couldn't do it because it had 6k axles and 8 lug wheels. I was told normally 6k axles have six lug wheels.

I was wondering what you had.

I have the same 6K axles with 8 lug wheels. I looked at the Dexter website and they are correct. Do you have to upgrade the axles?

We had our rig upgraded at the Coos Bay Rally in 2019 by Performance Trailer Braking and was the best thing we've done to the rig. I would just call them to see what they say, even if you don't ultimately go with them. https://performancetrailerbraking.com/

Photo of the brakes installed before the brake plumbing was installed.

Swapping the axles is relatively inexpensive - when compared to the disk install.

The company I used was Performance trailer braking.

They said that Montana was trying to save a buck by installing 6k axles.

He said the price difference between a 6k and 7k axle was minimal

6K axles on our HC with 8 lug bolt pattern. PTB installed our Kodiak disk brakes in OKC 15 months ago. There is obviously some confusion somewhere. This is the best upgrade bar none that we've made to our HC

Did you install the Sumo springs on your RV? Did they help? I've been considering a shock install on ours. Thanks.

Yes the Sumos was the first upgrade I made. They obviously don't help out with rebound, but seem to help out with upward travel shock since we've not experienced any trim popping loose is several thousand miles. Bare in mind I drive like the old foggie that I am. YMMV

Years ago I looked at my axles and I have information that Is stamped into the steel tube that says 6K and right next to that a glued on plate that says 7K. I have 8 lug wheels. Go figure. BTW I installed Kodiak Disk brakes years ago and they have been terrific.

Our 2021 3761FL originally had 8k springs and 7k axles. We had Performance trailer install 8k axles and disc brakes in Jan 2023 and never looked back. The cost was approx. $5k. It stops much better.
