LOL Wow what timing. I sorta figured out on one of our set's this... BUT - it is super cool to see a picture layout for this. (bookmarked/downloaded for the other 2(or was it 3) of the rear ones that need this too......

I just finished restringing the 4 cord blind, the big rear window. I'm glad I had a big table to work on. I wouldn't even attempt it inside the rig.

John,
I have had trouble with my shade by the kitchenette. I've had to remember to pull out the base of the shade to clear the window opener knob. I forgot one time and the right hand side (away from the window knob) came up and darn, the left didn't follow because it got caught on the window knob, so now I have a slight tear on the shade nearest the window, and I have to watch so that it doesn't catch again. I thought I saw on this forum a knob or handle set that could be installed on the bar or base of the shade to put equal pressure to raise or lower the shade. Just thought I'd add my two cents worth.

I have a hole in the "Day" portion of a shade, where a loose chair had rubbed. Can anyone tell me where I can buy just the lower half of the material to repair the shade?
Thanks

Walt and others.
this is a google search result for the Irvine Shade and Door company in Elkart. This company was found from the first photo on the slideshow of the repair. Only phone number and address, no web page for them. Hope this helps.

The pictures were really good. My wife and I have just restrung one of the two cord shades and have a four cord on the counter to be redone. The biggest issue we have is setting the tension when we reinstall the shades. Does anyone have a secret to setting the tension correctly?
We did a trial and error install on the tension, and it appears that you must have the shade all the way up with the cords tight and then set your tension. This was a two person project.
By the way we contacted the Irvine Shade in Elkhart and was told that we needed to go through Keystone to purchase the shades (we needed only the day portion of the shade due to a tear). We also needed some end caps and the lady said she would send me some. We shall see. We would have never attempted this without seeing the pictures.

Used your pictorial guide about a year ago on one of my blinds. Was looking for the link about a month ago to share with a friend but, couldn't find it. Thanks for reposting the link John.

Where do I get this string? I need to re-string our rear shade which has 4 strings in it.

I went to home depot and found braided nylon in the right size and you'll have lots left for the next time you do it...really is easy to do. John

I called Irvine Shade and Door company and they are sending me replacement strings Free of Charge for the rear window. Should be here any day. Thanks for the info and if it doesn't work I will be going to Home Depot and look for the other cord you mentioned. Thanks again for the reply!

How about just replacing them altogether, with pleated shades? Anyone done this? I have re-strung several of ours and would just like to end the hassle once and for all.

John's pictures are invaluable for re-stringing DayNight shades. Loosing them due to Google's obsolescence proclivity seems to be a shame.
I was able to contact John (Ontmont) and he kindly supplied a new URL for his slideshow. Enjoy and Thanks John!!!

I am convinced that a lot of shade problems are the result of too much tension on the cords. My suggestion is to apply only the minimum tension required to make the shades stay in the up position.

It appears the link to your pictures gets stale dated. When I click on the link it comes up with an error. Any chance you could send them to me?
Thanks,
Jim

You were trying to use the link to PicassaWeb from 2010. Picassa is no longer supported. In May, John moved the photos to a new location. Try using this link Day Night Shade Restringing
