I had something where the mice had chewed through the intake line (to the pump) and was causing the water go back into the tank because it couldn't hold a suction.

For Rain collection There would certainly be a basic filtration before going in IBC totes (built up on a small tower for pressure. Then a filter before going into the tank....

Maybe. Like Derby6 said - if it was a brake hanging or dust, I would think you would be getting really hot, and fires would be the result. Does/did it smell hot? Burnt rubber is pretty distinctive...
