It's in 2 sections. One, a 1-to 3 foot section depending on which one you buy stays attached to the roller tube via the second awining slot in that roller, the bottom 4 to 6 foot section zips on that...

We also have an end shade as ours sits N-S most of the summer. They are great at keeping the blasting sun reasonable. They also give a bit of added privacy.
