The 'trick' with the sewer line is to close all the valves and only pull them to drain. As long as your hose is self draining, i.e. sloped downhill it will remain open. I forgot so mine was frozen...

WOW, those are really cold temperatures., I live in Canada on the west coast and we had everything freeze up this winter (coldest ever) at -10C. That is +14F so I can not relate to the temps you are...
