I have one I used for years. Never got anything of any consequence on it. Started getting SD card full alarm message very often, sometimes after an hour or so. Tried a new card and same thing. So I put it away. Have considered another but never followed thru.

Some record for some defined period of time and then begin overwriting the older data so no need to erase periodically unless you just want to clear it. And as noted above, some automatically save video from overwrite for the minutes before and after being involved in an accident, or by pressing a switch if something happened you wanted to save.
