Which slide are you working on? On my unit, the kitchen slide is as you described. I could only put screws on the outer edges (front & rear); one row of screws per UHMW strip. The remainder of the kitchen slide has nothing to screw into; felt like cardboard.
On the other hand, the whole floor of the dining slide is solid.
