Over the past 20 years, I have tried to use as many military campgrounds as I could for destinations or stopovers.

I’ve been to some with only 8-10 sites to others with over 100 sites. A few of those were first come, first served and had no problems getting a site.

I prefer to have reservations and most are very accommodating. There are only 2 bases I’ve had problems getting reservations. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio (always seem to have some event going on) and Offett Air Force Base (continual flooding problems).

So far I stayed at :
Davis Monthan AFB, AZ
Luke AFB, AZ
Travis AFB, CA
NAS Pt Mugu, CA
Dover AFB, DE
Destin Army Rec Area, FL
NAS Pensacola, FL
Scott AFB, IL
Camp Atterbury, IN
Nay Rec Center Solomons, MD
Hanscom AFB, MA
Fort Leonard Wood, MO
Nellie AFB, NV
Grand Forks AFB, ND
WPAFB, OH
Weston Lake Rec Area Fort Jackson, SC
Fort Sam Houston, TX
Hill AFB, UT
NAS Whidbey Island, WA
F. E. Warren AFB, WY

Not a “bad” one in the bunch. Just depends on your expectations.

I use militarycampgrounds.us for my research.
