I've driven it many times. It is about 10 miles shorter but certainly will take longer than I-70 & hwy 191. Once you get past the Dewey bridge, it is a beautiful drive along the Colorado River with red cliffs towering on both sides; well worth the extra time.

A side trip for a few miles up the La Sal Loop Road towards Castle Valley is worth it if you have time; more of the same red cliffs & spires that Moab is famous for. Do not go past (south) Castle Valley and attempt the La Sal road with a trailer.

No problem pulling a trailer on 128, just take your time. There are several campgrounds along the river. I don't think it will be busy this time of year.
