Pam, if you are hooking it to a DVR you will need 2 wires, the DVR is actually two receivers in one. So you will need two inputs. You will need a HDMI cord from the DVR to the tv and probably the optical sound lead also although you can use the RCA sound cables but I find that the optical is better sound... Dave
