Yesterday 12/23/2014 I got into this issue with the manufacturer of a new Diesel that we were having the first major service performed by the dealer.

The manufacturer’s field representative stated they don’t recommend fuel additives unless we are having water contamination problems. They recommend a biocide / water suspension additive like Biobor under these conditions. They cautioned about following the instructions from the product manufacturer. More is not better some additives in larger quantities than recommended can damage the engine.
