As your shore cord ages, and with it sticking out straight, the jacket of the cord, right at the housing of the plug will crack due to the weight of the cord hanging, plus, the electrical connection is always under stress with that weight trying to pull the plug sideways in the socket in the trailer. I just leave the adapter connected to the cord all the time, and have done that since I purchased it.
