We have always had a TomTom, which works very well when you get within the last few miles and you have no clue where you are going. If taking a long route, it has a tendency to take you through some wild-haired roads that don't make a lot of sense sometimes. After all these years, I still haven't figured out why it does what it does. We are on our 3rd one.

We also use the maps on our smart phones, Google Maps and directions in conjunction with TomTom. Sometimes, it's just a lot easier to use the phones. And of course, GasBuddy.com on your phone is priceless for finding fuel stations. (check it out).

Along with all of this, when trip planning, initially, we always confide in a paper map, or a trucker's road atlass. Rand McNalley make pretty good ones. Between the three, we always get to where we are going.

The nice thing about TomTom is, we can punch in the final destination point. Then when we are out exploring and it's been a long day and need to get back to the campsite, we can just flip on TomTom and it points right back to the camper. No need to fumble around with the Google Maps again, punching in an address all over again.

Never, never, never, never get dependent upon technology for your travel directions. Always hang on to your paper maps. They don't fail or loose internet or satellite signals!
