The hole should be orientated at 3 or 9 o'clock position. I took my wet bolts out and held a tiny drill bit in my fingers and cleaned out the hole by hand. It worked really well. The bushings were worn out on mine twice in 5 years. I grease twice a year too. I bought a complete kit from Morryde and always carry it with me. Wet bolt kit #U012-016 $107.99. Torq to #50 ft lbs. The bolt will have to be pressed out - Or pounded out without damaging the threads.
I'm installing independent suspension and disc brakes in June for this exact reason. I'm tired of fixing wet bolts. I've had 2 break in half and could have lost a spring if it would have fell out.
You can also change the zerk fitting to help get grease in. Sometimes they get clogged up with road grime.
