I've used the same B&W since 2008 and two 5ers and two trucks over 75K miles. The first truck had the turnover base in a short bed, the current is the same head unit on a puck base and in a long bed. Nary a bed side or cab clearance problem even with a 90 plus degree back in turn to our driveway. The only problem I've had was a stripped U-bolt on the turn over base - and B&W overnighted a pair of replacements at no charge.
Never heard of any problems with a Curt but have no personal experience with the brand. I 'assume' you have seen the Andersen situation.
