Traveling to Dolores Rally

First, for those coming from the east, there are a number of us spending a few nights at Arkansas Point in Lake Pueblo State Park in Pueblo. Then, we are boondocking near Great Sand Dunes NP the night before the rally. Just tossing it out if anyone is interested in joining us.

The second item is to be prepared. Colorado is off to the worst start to the fire season in memory. We generally see our first fires in late May. Every day we are having multiple fires. At home we have been having 70 to 90 mph winds weekly. If you have never encountered a wildfire, it can turn deadly in a short time. Just be aware as you are traveling in the western states this year. The big change is the fires are affecting cities and towns, not just the mountains. We survived the High Park fire, unlike the other homes in our subdivision.

The main point is to be fire aware. Keep up to date on news, and if you are near a fire, pay attention. If you are told to evacuate, move like your life depends upon it. It just might. This is not intended to scare anyone. It shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying the outdoors, but it also shouldn’t be ignored. When you camp, know your exit routes. Safe travels.
