We put a Simmons Beautirest in ours then added a topper. Gel did not work for us so that went and a foam topper was used. That gel topper for a person that moves around some at night may not work since it's like climbing out of a hole every time you turn over.
My recommendation is to use the same setup that you have in your S&B house, not try to do a work around
