OK for the road hazard guessers. Here's a close-up of the area in question. You will notice what you think is a cut is actually the tread pattern with a chunk of the next rib gone, so for me that rules out a road hazard cut.
Just ordered a replacement through Walmart as they beat the Simple Tire price by a few dollars.
