Going along with what Pam Bates said the striker is known to get wedged in the striker plate. The pry bar, in this case, a claw hammer, was placed under the door handle and pried outward. I would not pry between the door and the door frame as it may be damaged for life. I'd first try leaning your shoulder into the door right below the lock, like you are trying to force it shut, takes some pressure off the striker, then operate the handle. It'll take some serious pull on the handle. If that works, once opened lubricate the striker and striker plate with some dry lube. If that doesn't work the claw hammer would be my next choice.
