When we owned the dog and cat boarding kennel we would run into this problem ever winter. After hosing out the runs we would walk the water out of the hose if we had a threat of freezing temperatures. The trick is to be patient and allow the water to run out slowly. There will be very little water left in the water hose if you walk it out slowly.
