Update Onan 4000 won't run

Some my remember my Onan wouldn't run unless the computer board was warm. In cold weather you could put a little heat on that board and it run prefect. We replaced the board same problem. The generator finally got to where it wouldn't run. We took it apart. They are hard to fix when they aren't broke.
What we found was the generator has 2 small brushes that a small amount of current goes through to excite the armature. The voltage varies from a volt or two to 60 volts depending on how many watts the generator needed to produce. The man that was doing the work took one look at the brushes and said your AC is bad and pulling too many amps. One of the brushes was 1/4 inche shorter than the other. Sure enough we checked the AC and it was pulling from 25 to 30 amps. It should have been pulling 11.6 amps. It was putting out cold air but the compressor was bad.
If your AC isn't working like you think it should you might put put an amp gage on it. You might do it even if it is working ok.
