A b&w non slider has a hitch head that mounts to its base. It is adjustable up and down, fore and aft. Mine is set to a position that is a bit back from center and have no problems. If it needed more cab clearance it could be moved back even further. IMO, sliders can be ok but with more moving parts could be a source of looseness as they wear. At least the one I had did.
