I like your idea of making removable storm windows. Larry Sessoms (Hook) advised to get local glass company cut our front door plexy glass pieces, if they cut it wrong or scratch it, then we had not lost money, We took the screen door off and took it to glass shop, and they did a good job using acrylic 1/8" thick for $92. We used an old white two-wire telephone cord cut to length to snug the pieces in the door making It is easy to remove and replace. We like our door open for light and windows for fresh air. Let us know what you do as we might follow suit.
