Mine has been bolted on for about 12 years. Seems to work fine. I understand what Dave W is saying about the movement. If you ever follow one down the road it looks exaggerated. The bikes if secured to the rack adequately are not taking a beating just moving in harmony with the rack. My bike takes a lot more beating on a trail with both wheels on the ground and my 195 pound butt on the seat.
