I had a similar problem like wward. The connections for the new 7 pin connector to support the fiver looked good, but I removed cleaned and reconnected them before my sporadic problem went away. I just think there was a poor connection somewhere that buzzed out with a meter okay (but the truck was sitting idle and not underway or being stressed), but while being used under tow, a problem occurred. I don't think the OP's solution will be that easy.
