I eliminated the little red regulator several years ago with no adverse effect on anything. I know what the specs say and the purpose of the red regulator, just sharing my results.

From what I read, it will work fine - until you are in an accident and the rod running across the front breaks off somewhere. Then you have a blow torch shooting out propane. Although, I suppose those valves in the tank should prevent it, so I don't know.
