Pretty normal problems for a 15 year old rig that has been sitting. The problem with the Fantastic Fan where it "...tries to open but it won't and fan doesn't come on..." is likely due to stiction between the lid and the gasket. A common problem with the era fan. You can lift the lid up by hand and then lube the gasket with silicon or such and that should correct the problem.
