Unless something has changed, the process I have followed is to run the slide ALL THE WAY IN and OUT 3 times. They specifically told me to never stop until it reaches the fully in or out position as that could cause the motors to get out of sync.
I had to replace a motor on one of mine as the wires had been pulled out of the circuit board on the top of the motor. Running it in and out completely 3 times re-synched the motors with the controller and I haven't had any problems since.
