I’ll bet he is using 6061 aluminum. It’s the go to material for applications like this. It could be one of the 5 series aluminums but I’ll bet a buck it’s 6061 but it doesn’t really matter. Either one softens when heated. And no neither one has changed in over 50 years. At least as long as I have been using them. The manufacturers can’t change it or it wouldn’t be 6061. It would haft to be designated as another alloy.
If you wont to see how much strength you need look at the picture in post 7 of this thread. That is all I need to know.
