My deadbolt quit once on me. I was outside with my family and daughter. By a lucky break, I had not latched the rear emergency exit window or maybe just the window. So I was able to slide the window open, my daughter (age around 32 at the time climbed in with some help, and checked things out. I handed her a screw driver and she took the lock apart. Got it open and turns out a screw inside the lock had come out. Just put the screw back in and all was good.
By the way, I no longer lock the deadbolt at all!!
