1-2 The Onan 5500 ingests and exhausts cooling/heated air below itself. This results in hot air being ingested back into the cooling intake. In warmer climates, the generator runs very hot due to re-ingesting the heated air into the cooling side. In each of my past generators, I had my metal shop build an elbow which channeled the hot air to the driver’s side of the camper. My present 2019 3700FL, came with a factory installed Onan 5500 (sold it). I removed the containment shroud and installed 560 amp hours of Lithium batteries, which serves more than 90% of the time. When ac is anticipated, 1 or two Honda 2200’s (which is rare) keeps things cool. The 640 watts of panels have proven more than adequate to keep the 12 volts topped off by noon each day. The weight saved and storage area reclaimed was worth the effort.
You have any pictures what you guy did to your generator area?
