I do the same as Miner, works great. The other thing I do, if I'm curious as to the propane level, is I get a pitcher of hot water, slowly trickle the hot water down the side of the tank, when the water is gone slide your hand down the tank feeling the warmth of the tank, when it turns cold that is the level of the propane, very easy checking process.
