Cottonwood

Founded in 1879, Cottonwood was given the distinction of being called the ”Biggest Little Town in Arizona.” The town derives its name from a stand of large cottonwood trees growing along the Verde River. Originally, Cottonwood was an army outpost, but soon a farming community of newly arrived settlers began to develop.

Prescott

Prescott has a rich history as a frontier gold and silver mining town. Mining and settlers brought frequent conflict with native American tribes in the area, including the Yavapai and Apache. Prescott was the home to Fort Whipple from its inception, which acted as a base for campaigns against natives.
