My cutoff switch is the first connection from the negative side of the battery. The shunt and other connections come after it. When the battery is disconnected, you can't read the voltage. But I don't disconnect except when the RV goes in for service/repair. Simply turning the disconnect switch will show the current battery state of charge if you want to know.
