I would start at the auto transfer switch. On my unit, it is mounted in the ceiling of the basement directly adjacent to the inverter. It is a black box with a cord running to and plugged into the inverter, so you should be able to trace it back from the inverter to the switch. Some have reported having a bad auto transfer switch that was not switching over when shore power was applied.
