Check out the Amana Colonies just off I80 in Iowa. There are several well liked restaurants in the towns. They serve most food family style (big bowls of potatoes, veggies, etc). Also, several factories (I think they are still there) that make clothing and furniture and other stuff.
Colonies founded by a sort of Amish group and was actually a real socialist organization as the group owned everything.
