had the same problem. drilled out the rivit. put the plastic piece back in place took a small stainless steel bolt slid it through the rivit hole and through the plastic piece to the other side then put nut on end and tighten. you might have to cut the bolt down to fit for length. worked fine for me. nut has to be facing out so door will close.
