If you have a tech do it, he will draw a vacuum on it first. If the vacuum leaks that will tell you there is a leak somewhere. He can determine at that time if its worth chasing and fixing the leak.
Still cheaper to try than just throw away.
Open the cover yourself and give it a good cleaning first so you can see whats going on. Look for potential leak sites (staining).
