I think the propane detectors list a 5 year expectancy. Mine started beeping some special signal when it was about done, if I remember correctly. And the newer monoxide and smoke detectors don't have replaceable batteries either. So instead of putting in a 2 or $3 battery, you go buy the whole thing for $20. MAkes sense - for the manufacturer!!
