That is the drawback of these steps. It also makes it tight sometimes in a truck stop or rest area to enter the camper. Montana is I think putting these in all the new 5ers. I think now that I've seen them I would prefer the glow step. However, either one is a step up from the diving board I had on my last SOB.

That little extra spring in the old steps helps jump over mud puddles that are at the bottom of the steps!
