traveling to canada
We are planning a trip up into Canada around Calgary this late summer 2024. Wondering what I need to do to bring a 9mm and a .38 revolver into Canada?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you've done it what types of hoops did you have to jump through? We are planning to cross at either Sweet Grass or Bonners Ferry. I have a USA (Arizona) valid concealed carry permit and have had for years now.

Unless things have changed since we went to Alaska you cannot bring any handguns into Canada.

No hand guns to Cnada, you can take rifles and shotguns, but there is paperwork to be filled out. So in the end it's best to leave all firearms behind.

Unless it changed this year, you are allowed to bring a handgun “through” Canada with very strict regulations. You need to specify the day you will enter Canada and the day you will leave - exactly. You must fill out the paperwork, pay the fees and keep ammunition and guns locked separately. You may not use for self defense. In my opinion, it is not worth the hassle. We met a motorcycle couple that had a handgun and had to go home early because of health reasons in 2014. They may still be sitting there.

You do not need to bring guns to Canada for any reason. Please leave them at home.

Two documents are required to apply to bring in a restricted weapon (such as a handgun). You will also need to provide a reason, safety is not a reason. Best to leave home.

I am a Canadian living north of Calgary. As Bomo previously stated, please leave the pistols at home. You won't need them here. We don't have the same "issues" with gun violence as the US.

If you do go to the boarder and realize you have a gun. Tell the American side you do not want to go to Canada. They can't force you to cross.

Not true. We were on the Cassiar in 2019 when this happened; felt defenseless. When we drove past the Dodge south of Dease Lake it was still smoking.

However, you have to leave the guns and ammo at home.

I bird hunt in Saskatchewan. It very easy to take a long gun across the border, a simple form and a $25 Canadian license. Stop at the US side before you cross and they will give you a form to get them back into the US without issue.
