Luxury RV sites
Bingo posted a site they're going to camp at on/near lake Pontchartrain. The site was absolutely amazing (congrats again on 25 years), and it got me to thinking that I know basically zip about luxury sites. I would like to ask everyone what luxury sites they know of or have camped at before? Are there any that you think are "one-of-a-kind" or "can't-miss-it" sites that are worth adding to the bucket list? Thanks in advance!

There's a place down in the Keys where the rig backs right up to the ocean. Cost is out of this world.

Dick, is the site you are talking about Bluewater Key RV Resort? Looks AWESOME! Have showed this one to Dea before. Would love to stay there if we ever get the chance to tow the Monte that far south. Tim

We stayed at a place outside of Dillon SC (Myrtle Beach area) where the luxury sites had paver patios, grill, gazebo, wrought iron furniture and a hot tub, backed up to a lake. We enjoyed looking at them as we walked back to our non-luxury but nice site.

Don't know what we are getting into yet, but next week we are in Fiesta Key RV Park on Long Key, FL. Our Thousand Trails membership entitles us to half price at this park. We have been quoted a little over $600 for the week for our half price stay. Will report back after we get to see the place first hand. The photos show water front sites. We will see.

There are also luxury sites (or what we think are luxury) that are available at very reasonable places. Our all-time favorite campground is Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in the panhandle of Florida. Although the amenities are not really luxurious, the sites are large, paved and have fantastic tropical foliage surrounding them. Price is $42 a night for a piece of tropical heaven on earth. Here is a photo of a typical site at the loop part of the campground:
We will be going back this summer at the end of July!

I stayed here in October one time. I think we only paid $50-80 a night. The site looked pretty much like the one in New Orleans above. I may be off a little on the price, but know I paid less than $100.

AWESOME!!! back your 5th up to the Bay OR the Marina and throw a CRAB trap out or rent a sandrail or quad, we are members of KM resorts and RPI but we always stay there for a treat, during the summer you have to make reservations a few months in advance www.winchesterbayrvresort.com

Thanks Jimmy, we'll definitely do that this year! I'll go look right now. That's not too far for a week long trip either, so I can easily pull that off.
Also wondering about good parks in northern California, anywhere in Oregon, Idaho, Montana (of course), maybe northern Nevada too. Would love to take 3 weeks anywhere warm in the winter, but again, work prevents that for now...I can dream anyway!

We are currently in Vacation Inn RV Resort in West Palm Beach and it looks like paradise here. Gated park, very secure, with very friendly people. It is rated one of the top 80 RV parks in the country. We are backed up to a large pond and enjoy watching beautiful birds that we have never seen before. If you are traveling in this area, I highly recommend it.

Hey Bingo, that picture looks so familiar and typical of Topsail Hill. Gail and I are still hoping to get there for a couple weeks yet this spring.

Not sure if this is an accurate story or not, but what we have been told of Topsail Hill Preserve, is that it used to be a private RV campground that was rated in the top 1% of campgrounds in the country. Since it was immediately adjacent to the existing state park, the state of Florida decided that it wanted to purchase the park so that they could control the entire preserve area. I heard that the purchase price was in the neighborhood of 5 million dollars. As I said, this is just what we have heard and cannot verify it. But it does not change the fact, that this is our #1 favorite campground of all of those that we have stayed in over the years. If you have not been there, it is worth the stay!

Gail and I have been thru there a couple of times over the last 2 or 3 years. My BIL ownes a house in Destin on Miramar Beach. His brother works as a maintenance man there at Topsail Hill. Perhaps he knows all about this purchase so, next time I see the "goofy old coot", I'll have to ask about that.

Willow Tree RV Resort in Longs, SC. Large landscaped sites, all paved . Patios , picnic tables, fire rings. Some lots on lake. Some lots with hot tubs. Beautiful lake with white sand beach ., all kinds of water toys. Largest sites I have ever experienced. Paved walking trails, paved cart trails, beautiful pavilion, large conference center with kitchen. Game room with pool, ping pong, air hockey, etc. swimming pool, camp store , approximately 15 miles from North Myrtle Beach, close enough to be convenient, far enough to be quiet and very comfortable, plus away from the traffic . Approximately $50-60 per. Beautiful,IMHO.
