When should inverter kick in?

I had a high voltage error (PE5) kick off one leg of my power, the side with the residential fridge. However, inverter did not automatically kick in so fridge was off. Luckily I was here and the high voltage was short so shore power came back on pretty quick. But my question is, shouldn’t the inverter have kicked in right away? Before power came back on I checked the GFI in the basement t.hat covers the fridge but it didn’t seem to have power (pushing either button didn’t do anything, both “soft”j. Is there supposed to be a delay or do I possibly have a bad inverted again? Original one replaced as it never worked and this is my first extensive (3 month trip) with the new one.
