Truck System Technologies Battery Change
I know that the web pages mention changing the battery every 1 - 1 1/2 but I was wondering what the experts here on the MOC have found for real battery life. I'm expecting those storing in the colder climates up north may have shorter stories to share.

We don’t store, use the rig heavily, stay away from cold locations in winter and do minimal dry camping. Our batteries have generally lasted 3-4 years on average.

We are only part timers. So my batteries are only installed from about April until Oct. I change them every two years. Have never had one fail.

CR1632 Energizer batteries are less then a buck each on ebay. I automatically change them each spring. Which reminds me .....

Generally change mine every two years. Full time so they work all the time, but that seems to be getting the most out of them before they die.

DQDick, mine are about 3+ years old and still going good. I purchased some new ones to go on my truck. I waited about a year to install them and I had to put new batteries in them. I have new batteries and when they fail on the trailer I am going to see who made them because they have been good.

I leave mine on year round and have only ever had one go dead. It was a cheap Chinese battery. I change them once a year, every spring.

Over the years I've discovered many not so good quality button batteries, especially from China. Through the process of using many, many of these button batteries in dozens of instruments, watches, and other small gizmos, my pick is to buy only Maxell (made in Japan), Duracell or Energizer (Made in USA), and Panasonic or LG (not button batteries - 18650). I have spare CR1632 (Maxell) in my truck in case the TST need changed. I'm approaching the 18 month mark now and I may wait over winter and see how the originals hang in. I was just wondering others experience. Thanks.

Mine started going out after two years. And if we’re parked for over a week , I remove them to try and extend the life. JT.

If only traveling for 3 weeks or less I leave the tire monitor on until returning home. Spending 3 months in Arizona I remove until ready to leave for home and they last several years.

TST battery change
I got approximately 3 years. I remove the sensors and keep indoors when not traveling.
It's tedious installing new "o" rings. You'd swear that those tiny o rings wouldn't stretch over the sensor, but they did.
I recommend keeping a supply of o rings and screws on hand. Plus, you need a very tiny screwdriver. I had some but had to buy another set of micro screwdrivers with smaller head.
Sensor threads need to be cleaned well so the caps will screw on tightly. It might surprise you how tightly you need to tighten sensor caps. They are exposed to water spray.

The only time I remove the sensors is to change the batteries. That is done about every 18 months. I only use Energizer and NOT from Walmart.

Our 2012 has the original battery, still going strong. Rig stays plugged in year round.

It amazes me the number of years folks are toying with a potential of thousands of bucks damage to their RV by not changing batteries and spending a half hour with a screw driver. Those batteries that I just received from ebay - 2018 manufacture date and a grand total of $4.34 including free shipping.
The gentleman that has had his 5er plugged in since 2012 - wont help a bit - 120V doesn't charge the TPMS batteries and I suspect the batteries are as dead as two on my 2011 tow vehicle (have new ones, waiting warmer weather )

TST is a manufacturer of a Tire Monitoring System that sends the temperature and air pressure of each tire to a receiver that you have in your truck and will give out audio warnings when tire pressure is too low or too high. There are o-rings associated with the wheel mounted sensors that sometimes need changing when you open them up to install new batteries.
I've had mine for 7+ years and it has saved me a $$ more than once!

My mistake. Reading in too big of a hurry, thought the post was about rig’s battery.
I too remove my sending units when parked more than a couple weeks. I usually get 3-4 years out of the batteries. I never remove batteries except to replace them. Evidently as I first believed, when uninstalled the sending units are turned off.
