TC, seeing you have a Mountaineer which is generally a little lighter than the other Montanas, you might be able to get by with E rated LT tires. Many on the forum with the lighter units are using LTs with very good luck and no problems.

Hi Art...MAXXIS is one I forgot to mention, I'll give those a closer look as well. I called Keystone today and learned that Tredit Tire & Wheel Company supplied my rims and tires. ( www.tredittire.com) They have Sailun on their products page but no pricing. I completed a quote request for 5 tires but have not yet received an answer. I did though confirm my rims are rated for 3750 pounds and are okay for the 110psi G rated tires.
Hi Michelle...surprisingly, our Mountaineer is fairly heavy at 11,063 pounds dry, 2315 pounds on the hitch, 3252 pound cargo capacity and 7000 pound axles. I looked again tonight and the average Montana is 1500 to 1800 pounds heavier on the dry weight with hitch weights being relatively equal. I guess I'm still trying to convince myself it's not a waist of money buying G rated tires. The Marathons really let me down after a couple short years and not a lot of miles.
I appreciate all input.
TC

TC, you're right. With 7K axles it sort of rules out the LTs. I just know there are many on the forum that get by with them. We've gone a step further on our SOB by upgrading from the 614s to the 17.5 H rated 114s and Mor/ryde 8K IS.

Having a better engineered and built tire on our trailers should be the norm right from the factory. I shouldn't have had 2 blowouts on my trip north to maine this year after only 1 year of ownership of my 3800RE and less than 8,000 miles. And I drive 60mph, keep the tire pressure maintained, and take temp readings while on the road. Marathons ran anywhere from 130's to the 140's while doing this driving. The new Sumitomo med duty truck tires run much cooler and are hands down a better tire than the goodyear marathons. Yeah, more expensive...but having ones trailer suffer damage is a lot more expensive. And besides, we are full-timers and our montana is our home; riverside rv resort outside port charlotte, florida in the winter and points north in the summer months. John
