This is a confusing thread, inverters do not charge your batteries, they convert/invert 12vdc to 115vac and are used for resident refrigerators on RVs.
Converters are used to convert 115vac to 12vdc and are used for battery charging, etc., converters are normally located in the circuit breaker ass’y inside the RV, inverters are normally located in the basement overhead and connected directly to the batteries thru an on/off switch located in the battery compartment. If your RV mechanic is telling you your batteries are not charging because of a faulty inverter find another mechanic.

Additionally, if shore power is disconnected and the inverter has been switched off the residence frig should be off. Turn on the inverter, no shore power applied the frig should be on if the batteries are not below the inverter power input threshold.

Make sure the GFi recept on the front of the inverter isn't tripped.

I had some trouble with my GFI tripping on the inverter and couldn't really see it well on the ceiling of the storage comp. I plug on of these:

into the other side of the duplex in the inverter and can see at a glance if the inverter is working.
Also I believe the cut off for the inverter is when the input voltage drops below 11.5 v.

Check the battery disconnect make sure it’s right we had on that was not set right

My advice is to install a battery disconnect switch AT the battery(s). I had one on 2 different fifth wheel trailers for 16 years and the batteries never went dead. My current fifth wheel trailer has a solar panel that trickle charges the batteries.
