Marker Lights only 9.7 volts Help!

After installing backup camera with existing plug that came with, I noticed camera lost signal every time I applied brakes. After checking different voltages, I only have 9.7 volts on my rear marker lights, and when applying brakes the voltage dips below the camera standards, and drops out. So, checked ground on pin box, voltage and all connections in the cord junction box under pin box. All is good, perfect 12.1 volts. Checked all bulbs including tail light bulbs. Junction box starts at 12.1 volts, the two front marker lights is 10.9 volts, then rear marker lights go down to 9.6 volts. Removed all bulbs and still same results. I wish I knew how the wiring runs. Removed a couple marker lights to check wiring but really cannot get to the wiring much. What’s my next step? Sounds like a grounding issue, but pin box ground is perfect. FW always stored in temp controlled environment, practically new condition, with zero corrosion concerns. I appreciate any help. I’m stumped. TIA

Shows the wiring for your 7 pin plug. Which power source do you have your backup camera running off of?

It is my understanding Montana wires the Furrion pre wired plug to the top center clearance light. Unless someone knows any difference.

You might check with your local GM dealership about the stock voltage to the 7way plug. I don't know what year they started reducing voltage since they use LED lights throughout but I've seen discussions about needing a special adapter in order to get 12 volts to the plug for your trailer.

I was also reading that GM was tweaking their lighting voltages and looks like it started after 2017 or later. Measuring out of my 7 way plug to ground I’m getting 12.8 volts.

Well, bummer. I thought it might be an easy fix but looks like you have some voltage loss from the plug back. Frayed wire or loose ground?

I had your same experience years ago on my 2006 when installing a back up camera. Had to change all the running lights to LED bulbs and that solved my issue. May not be your issue as you said you saw the drop at the fixtures with all the bulbs pulled. Installed a back up camera for my neighbor on their fifth wheel. Instead of tying it into the running lights we picked up 12 volts off an interior light circuit in his coach. Easy wire fish as his switch was on the rear wall. Ran it to a 12 volt remote relay. He could operate the relay from his truck.

Very strange. Seems to me if you get a drop, it would mean there is a short but not a complete short if that is possible. Voltage drops each time there is resistance in the line. So I don't get why it goes down after each light fixture??? I would think the first one should drop it x volts, but that should remain thru the rest of the wiring. Very strange (to me anyway).

The voltage drop could also be happening because the wire is too thin (or some of the strands broke) to handle the load. I like the recommendation to tie it to a different 12V source instead of the clearance light...

Adapter

Adapter is simply a plug you plug into your truck 7-pin and then plug your rv into that. That’s it. A little over $100.00 bucks
E-trailer has them
