I was wondering if you can check for a voltage drop at the battery with a multimeter and shore power off when you flip the switch? ✌🏻️

Remember the parameters for when the tank heaters kick in. And that is the temperature at the tank not the air temp.

Check the temperature of your water then turn the heat on and in a white check the water temp again.

I doubt voltage drop would be a reliable indicator; monitoring current would probably work. My switches are not lighted. The heaters do have a thermostat, but I don't know where it kick in.

Go outside and tinker around a few minutes while making a little noise. Tell her they appear to be working and let her prove otherwise. We made it a very long time without tank heaters.

I think I’ve solved the problem .
I made her stand at the switch panel and hold the battery test switch on as I turned each heater switch on one at a time. Each time I did the battery lites would go out showing a drain on the battery.
Job done.

I don't use our pad heaters when we're set up. The furnace keeps the pipes and tanks warm enough. I have kept a remote thermometer down there and it never gets below 60 when it's cold out and the furnace is running. Since they are 12v. a lot of folks use them when they are traveling in very cold weather just as a safety measure. The TV will keep the batteries up.

Hi! We are full-timing and currently outside of Houston. We have a 2016 KEYSTONE MONTANA 3950BR. We are living through the epic winter freeze down here and without power to the rv for three days with below freezing temps at night. We did not turn on the tanks heaters. Our two grey water tanks are empty and fresh water is about 1/4 full. Now our black water tank is FULL. Husband feels sure that the valve to empty tank is frozen. Not sure about the condition of the sewer hose. We always leave the grey water tanks empty (separate valve and always open except when dumping black water). With that being said, would it do me any good to turn on the tank heaters (which are not marked) to heat the black water tank. Hubby doesn't want me to pull on that valve and possibly break it....that would be a disaster! Black water showing FULL and grey waters showing EMPTY. I pray I have made 'sense'. Help a little old lady out and keep me out of trouble with hubby!!! Thanks!

It is unlikely that the tank heater will thaw the frozen valve as they don't get that warm. Run your furnace and if you can, run a small electric heater near the outlet outside to try to break the frozen valve loose. Gently pull on the valve occasionally to check, but DO NOT force it. It can easily break the cable or worse, the pipe.

Kozzy, I believe all of them are heated. The switches on mine are for fresh, black and gray. I have 2 gray tanks, but only 1 switch so the heaters on both gray tanks are on the same switch.

Jeanne, if you have been running your furnace, you shouldn’t have a problem. Most people keep their grey water tanks with some in there to flush after dumping the black tank.

If your tank has had the heaters on a few days with liquid in them. Dump em and feel the hose as it dumps is it warm or cold
