I was fortunate to have the old self-tapping screws to remove, which for the most part did unscrew without snapping off. I replaced all with stainless steel self-tapping hex heads. Not cheap, but knowing the are holding up a cover I will no doubt have to remove again, it is worth it to have something with some lifespan and can be reused.
I
really like the idea of dropping all of the cloroplast to scope out items to fix, and taking care of as many as possible. It's interesting to see the factory shortcuts, and to hear of more recent ones adopted by Keystone. Obviously the bottom line is reigning supreme, if the cost of self-tapping screws was too high, and explosive-driven hardened "nails" is okay for fastening the underbelly cover.
