Garmin 780 question

Not sure where to post this but I guess under Navigation would work. It shows the Garmin RV 780 has motorhome but not fifth wheel or trailer for height and length. Does anyone know if it does or does it make any difference as long as you are in the RV mode I guess. Thanks in advance

This couple had a pretty good YouTube video on the setup and use of the Garmin units.

Good luck. Hope this helps out

Right from Garmin’s website. (Yes, it does allow fifth wheel). https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webh...5EDBA794D.html

I've got mine setup for a 5th wheel. You setup a vehicle profile.

OK thanks guys, been looking at getting a new Garmin and the adds I was seeing only showed a motorhome. Just wanted to make sure it allowed for longer lengths and say more axles. Now it comes down to how much money you want to spend I guess. Thanks again

I have the 785 that I love as it has the built-in Dash Cam. So when ever traveling I have a video record and if you see something interesting you can ask Garmin to capture video and it will capture 3 minutes, 1 1/2 min before and 1 1/2 after.
And yes it's set up for a Fifth Wheel with weight, length, and height all programmed in.

Awesome - Congrats on the Garmin! If you would after a couple of trips, touch base again and let us know how it works out for you.

Love our Garmin

You will find it is very nice for navigating and even finding points of interest, you can even load POI's to it from outside sources to show you gas stations, medical facilities and other interesting things to see. We have a RV1080.

Will find out starting Sunday, leaving for a month, working our way down to Florida for a Granddaughters wedding and back thru Pigeon Forge and back to Ohio.

It is bigger than my old Garmin Nuvi and has more features so I'm sure there will be a learning curve.

I've always liked the POI features while stopping at different towns or things to see while spending a few days someplace new.

But as always the RM Road Atlas is still in the truck, still to old school I guess to give that up.

Cotter Key - that is sorta like wearing a belt AND suspenders! Ain't nothing wrong with that! Besides, I still prefer the feel of a book vice some screen, not that I'm against technology. Good luck and safe travels on your upcoming trip.

So far am liking the new Garmin, some new sounds and icons to get used to but no wrong turns yet and has not gotten me somewhere that I said "this don't look good".

Thanks for the update.

Most people like the RV specific GPS units - the Garmin units more especially so. I'm on the fence on this subject after speaking with folks in campgrounds who have used them. Those who have had issues, I can't help but wonder if they didn't have their GPS navigation set up correctly, or if instead they forced their own preferred route. We are staying with a trucker's atlas for now, but the convenience of turn by turn navigation is appealing.

Garmin RV 780 and steep grade

We just purchased a Garmin RV 780. I requested a route from our home to Ricketts Glen State Park campground. The route it suggested included a 2 mile stretch on a road that has an 18% grade. Has anyone else experienced this? I don’t think I can trust its routes.

I have the 770 but, no, haven't experienced that issue. I wonder if there are other settings/filters that you can set to address grade issues...

In settings, under “driver alerts” the manual says that the Garmin will play a tone if you approach a steep hill. But I need it to plan a route that doesn’t include steep hills.

My Garmin will not program a route into another state. For instance if I am in Madison, Wi. it will not find Chicago, Il or any other town outside of Wi.
